Road rage assault case moves to grand jury after victim testifies in court

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A preliminary hearing was held Thursday for Darrell Blankenship, who faces charges of assault and menacing following an alleged road rage incident in Lexington. The incident, which occurred on August 19th, involved the alleged assault of 33-year-old Kasey Dickens.

According to the UK Police Department, Blankenship allegedly approached Dickens’ car at a red light on South Limestone and punched her multiple times in the face. Dickens reported suffering a fractured nose, a concussion, and cuts from her broken glasses due to the assault.

Today marked the first time Dickens saw Blankenship since the incident, exactly one month after the alleged attack. “It was more overwhelming than I thought it would be,” Dickens stated in court. “Seeing him there and realizing that is the man who punched you in the face, that’s the man who broke your nose, that’s the man who changed your life – it was heavy.”

During the hearing, Blankenship was denied a lower bond. His case will now advance to the grand jury for further proceedings.
