LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEW NOW) – It was a wintry scene across central Kentucky Wednesday morning thanks to a quick moving line of snow. This line of snow is exiting the region to the east, where the mountains of southeastern Kentucky are picking up a little more than just a coating of snow. The snow showers will be replaced by some peaks of sunshine during the afternoon. But, we aren’t completely done with the snow showers today.
A round of scattered snow showers and snow squalls will be moving in late this afternoon and into the early evening hours. This won’t lead to much accumulation across the region. These snow showers and/or snow squalls could reduce visibility and lead to isolated slick spots on bridges and overpasses.
These snow showers will be out of the area by the late evening. This leads to a cold and breezy overnight and Thursday morning. Morning temperatures tomorrow will start off in the upper teens and low 20s. Once you factor in the northwesterly breeze, it will be feeling closer to the low teens and even single digits.
Thursday will be another cold day with afternoon highs struggling to get out of the mid-30s. Thursday night into Friday morning won’t be quite as cold as the night prior but you’ll still need the winter jacket when you head out the door.
Friday afternoon we will see temperatures return to the mid-to-upper 40s. This is right around where we should be this year. This will lead to a warming trend that will stay with us through the weekend and into early next week.
Rain chances return late Saturday and into early Sunday. This kicks off a few systems will be bringing more rain chances across central and eastern Kentucky. The current forecast has a widespread inch to two inches in the forecast through this time next week.
