LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — One lane of West High Street, from Merino Street to Madison Place, will be closed starting Monday, Dec. 9, through Friday, Dec. 20, as crews install new speed tables, according to the city of Lexington
A release says the closure will be in effect 24 hours a day, beginning with the right lane, which will be closed for approximately one week. Once work on that lane is complete, the left lane will be closed. Additionally, Manchester Street at West High Street will be closed during the project. Drivers can still access Manchester Street and the Central Bank Center garage via Oliver Lewis Way.
Two speed tables will be installed on West High Street, one near Merino Street and the other near Madison Place. These additions follow the installation of two speed tables in front of Rupp Arena.
Speed tables, which are longer and flatter than traditional speed bumps, are designed to slow down drivers and enhance roadway safety, according to a release. The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government expects the reduced speeds along this stretch of West High Street to improve overall safety for all roadway users.
Motorists should plan for delays and use alternate routes where possible.
