KSP adds new interactive tip line
This new tool gives people the ability to confidentially submit a crime tip much quicker than before.
Lexington, Ky (WTVQ): Kentucky state police now have a new interactive tip line. This new tool gives people the ability to confidentially submit a crime tip much quicker than before.
Paul Blanton, the Public Affairs Branch Commander, says it’s as fast as sending a text message. “Now, we’re able to integrate the website into an app, and when you pull up the website on a mobile device it looks exactly like you’re on an app.”
Blanton says KSP rolled out their new website last week. Now, the tip line icon can be found in the bottom right-hand corner on every page when using the app. Once you hit on the icon, the form will ask the location, of where the incident took place, the time the incident occurred, and then a brief summary of what happened.
“If they see something that’s out of the ordinary, they can snap a picture of it and send it to us. we can investigate it,” he said. Blanton says he hopes people will step forward who may have not felt comfortable to do so in the past. “As long as they provide us enough information to send that confidentially to the post or the CV region to be investigated, certainly it could help solve that crime,” he said.
All of the tips come to a central location in Frankfort, then can be sent out to a region to investigate. “We want to have an interaction with the public that they can confidentially notify us of a crime that’s occurring, or has occurred in the past,” Blanton said.
