Lexington, Kentucky residents killed in apartment fire
Two Lexington residents who were seriously injured in an apartment fire earlier this month have died, according to the Lexington Fire Department.
The fire happened Oct. 15 at an apartment building in the 800 block of Malabu Drive, the fire department previously said.
Nearby neighbors, neighbors Jeff Bailey and and Bradley Bush, said they rescued a man and a woman from the burning building. The victims were transported to a local hospital with critical injuries at the time, officials said. Neighbors said they heard a loud explosion at the apartment.
The victims haven’t been publicly idenfitied and it’s unclear where they died after they were taken to a local hospital — Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn said his office wasn’t investigating the deaths.
Maj. Derek Roberts with the fire department said the origin of the fire was smoking material and it’s being labeled as an accident.
