Several fire engines were needed Monday morning to help extinguish fire from a home on Ohio Street in Lexington.

Firefighters responded to a report of smoke inside a home in the 300 block of Ohio Street just after 7:15 a.m. Monday. They found fire on the outside of the house when they showed up.

“The incident was upgraded to a working structure fire, however, the fire was contained to the exterior of the structure,” said Jordan Saas, a battalion chief at the Lexington Fire Department. “No injuries have been reported.”

People were evacuating from the home when firefighters showed up, Saas said. A fire investigator was called to the scene. The cause and origin of the fire were under investigation.

The fire was “quickly extinguished,” Major Shane Poynter said.

Lexington firefighters had to handle another fire in a large pile of scrap metal and trash earlier Monday morning. The fire on Lisle Industrial Avenue was 1,500 feet away from the nearest fire hydrant, which made fighting the fire more difficult, Saas said. No injuries were reported.
