Lexington police seek public’s help for more information in the theft caught on camera

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – The Lexington Police Department is asking for the public’s after  Christmas decorations we stolen from a front porch. The theft, captured on home surveillance video, has left that resident looking for answers.

The incident occurred at a home on Barleys Pass. and the footage shows a suspect walking off with an armload of holiday decorations during the evening hours.

“I just kind of looked up from my phone, and I looked at my husband, and I said, ‘Oh my gosh, somebody was on the porch last night and stole a handful of our decorations,’” said Emily Kennedy, the homeowner and victim of the theft.

Kennedy, who wasn’t home at the time, described feeling uneasy after seeing the footage.

“Kind of feeling violated that somebody would come up onto my property,” she said. “It wasn’t even late at night—it was at 8 o’clock … And that just didn’t seem to stop anybody from coming up and taking whatever they wanted.”

Lexington police shared the video on Facebook, asking residents in the area to check their own surveillance footage and send any relevant information to detectives. Sgt. Guy Miller of the Lexington Police Department said their residential crimes unit has already received a few tips.

“We reached out to the detectives, they received a few tips,” Miller said. “If you live in that area, we’re asking you to check your video footage and send it to the detective. That way, we can have more of a timeline.”

Kennedy acknowledged that the holidays can be a challenging time but emphasized that crime is never the solution.

“It’s not even the items that I care about, but I just feel like if we keep letting people get away with little things, it’s only going to get worse,” said Kennedy.

Lexington police are encouraging residents to label their decorations and contact them or Bluegrass Crime Stoppers with any information regarding the case.
