Toyota announces $922 million investment in advanced paint facility at Kentucky plant
GEORGETOWN, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Toyota Kentucky has unveiled plans for a new $922 million investment to build a state-of-the-art advanced paint facility at its Georgetown plant. According to a news release, the facility aims to enhance operational efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and elevate the quality of vehicle finishes.
Facility Highlights
- Scheduled Opening: 2027
- Environmental Impact: 30% reduction in carbon emissions and a savings of 1.5 million gallons of water annually.
- Technological Advancements: Incorporates cutting-edge paint technologies to reduce lead times, improve accuracy, and offer more diverse color options for vehicles.
“Not only will our customers get the dynamic and stylish exterior finishes they love, but Toyota’s commitment to advanced paint technologies goes beyond aesthetics,” said Kerry Creech, president of Toyota Kentucky. “It encompasses efficiency, sustainability, and quality, leading the industry in environmentally responsible manufacturing.”
A Commitment to Kentucky
According to the release, this announcement follows Toyota’s $1.3 billion investment earlier this year to produce a three-row battery-electric SUV at the same Georgetown facility in 2026. Since its inception in 1986, Toyota has invested over $11 billion in Kentucky, cementing the state’s role in the company’s electrification and sustainability strategies.
“This year alone more than $2 billion is being reinvested in this plant,” Creech noted. “As the company and industry evolve, we remain committed to putting our team members first, ensuring long-term job security.”
Toyota Kentucky employs approximately 10,000 people.
Local and State Support
The investment has drawn praise from state officials, including Gov. Andy Beshear, who emphasized the strong partnership between Toyota and Kentucky.
“Kentucky and Toyota have formed a winning partnership over the past 40 years that has been transformational for families throughout the commonwealth, and this latest investment builds on that tradition of success,” said Gov. Beshear in the release.
A Broader Strategy
This initiative supports Toyota’s broader goals, including achieving zero carbon emissions by 2050 and increasing U.S.-based battery-electric vehicle (BEV) production, according to the release. Since 2020, Toyota has announced over $20 billion in investments in U.S. manufacturing operations, further advancing its leadership in electrification.
